About Amy (RYT 500-E)

In late 2005, I was asked to teach yoga one evening at a Mother’s Group meeting at our church. That single class stirred up enough interest that the church asked if I would offer an 8-week “Introduction to Yoga” class. Eight weeks later, Yoga With Spirit was born!

Since that time, Yoga With Spirit has grown from a single class one night a week to a full schedule of group classes, regular, private, and semi-private classes and retreats. I find myself surrounded by a wonderful, diverse community of yoga students ranging in age from 3–80. I wake up every morning dazzled that I’ve received the chance to do this!

I live and teach in Wayne, PA, about 15 miles outside of Philadelphia. I discovered yoga when my third child was still a baby. I was searching for a way to reclaim my body as my own. Very quickly, yoga went from my weekly two hours of “me-time” to a life-changing passion. It is my great joy to be able to share the gift of yoga with others.

In addition to yoga classes, through Yoga With Spirit, I also teach a Yoga Alliance certified 200 and 500-hour teacher training program. I am also an adjunct professor in the philosophy department at a highly selective university, where I teach a course called Yoga and Philosophy.

I am a “yoga writer.” In addition to my weekly essays, Yoga Thoughts, I co-authored a book on the spirituality of yoga called Faith With A Twist. I also edited a book on anatomy and yoga. Finally, I am a certified spiritual director.

Our lives today move so quickly and are so full of activity that we need yoga more than ever. We need to set aside time to be still. We need to set aside the time to reconnect with ourselves — our minds, our bodies, and our spirits. When we set aside the time for our yoga practice, in some amazing way we are always able to find the time for everything else in our lives!

Yoga is truly a gift that gives back — to you and to all the people who fill your life.

My fundamental teaching philosophy is that yoga works for everyone. We each have been formed by our individual life experiences. We each have a different mix of strengths and limitations. Each posture is infinitely modifiable for every body. No matter our age, our gender, or our body type, yoga is for us — and Yoga With Spirit is for you!
