Yoga Anatomy Workshops

I’ve been teaching this yoga anatomy workshop since 2000. The Yoga Anatomy Workshop lays the foundation of information that is applied in all the other workshops I teach. This workshop gives participants an opportunity to understand anatomical concepts and principles that apply directly to yoga. The information is always presented in a simple and straightforward manner.

One of the most important skills a teacher can have is the skill of observation. There is a lot of information in front of you in every moment, but you’re not necessarily aware of it until it’s pointed out. In the Yoga Anatomy Observation Workshop you will learn to use tools to enable you to see more of what a student is doing and/or not doing. Seeing more can make all the difference in the adjustments or cues you give to a student in a particular pose.

In the Yoga Adjustments Workshop, you will gain an in-depth understanding of the purpose and use of hands-on adjustments for yoga postures. Hands-on adjustments and assists can be a very powerful tool for yoga teachers. When done well, hands-on adjustments are an opportunity to retrain patterns or ways of moving that we see in our yoga students. You will understand the big picture of why, when, and how to apply hands-on adjustments, while learning skills that can be applied to all styles of yoga asana practice.

After teaching anatomy and yoga for nearly twenty years, the core of movement in practice can be brought back to three anatomical points that direct you toward the core of the body. This workshop is about simplifying the complexity of where to practice from anatomically. Instead of correcting bad habits, learn how to create positive healthy patterns.

In this workshop, David will take you on a journey through the anatomy of your breath. From the diaphragm to the abdomen, and pelvic floor. It’s not as simple or limited as inhale and exhale, oh no. The breath is what binds mind, body, and life itself together.

Students often crave deep backbends. At the same time, we run into resistance, back compression, or a lack of strength. In this workshop, we will review the most common negative patterns and pain problems and then dissect them from an anatomical point of view. This understanding will lead to new perspectives and ways to effectively and safely deepen your backbends.
